The Challenge
How can we decrease the chance of experiencing the fear of missing out, or add some excitement to any road trip?
The Objective
Allow people to explore a wide variety of new places by theme. Adventur, a car app interface concept, allows a voyager to find locations they have not visited before, those of which are all along the way to a location they want to navigate to.
User Interviews
I asked various people who often go roadtripping and asked them about how they explore new locations and what they’re looking for when choosing places to visit.
“I like a bit of variety on a road trip with fun stops to set the vibe, before I get to my final destination.”
— Alex
A boba barista who always wants to find ways to make every day an adventure
“I struggle to find hidden gems no matter where I go and I feel like I’m missing out on so much.”
— Carter
A photographer who goes on road trips once every 3 months
“I like to make stops during road trips but always fall behind schedule. The stops I can find aren’t along the way.”
— Adrian
A freelance artist who goes road-tripping with friends 5 times a year
Takeaway
I learned people want meaningful, personal experiences and not always the tourist spots. With Adventur, I explored how design can help users find places that match a mood or bring additional curiosity about a place, not just for popularity but for background. The concept pushed me to think about how feelings and discovery can shape how we interact with place-based apps.
Impact:
Adventur challenged the idea that travel planning has to be rigid, or that non-tourist spots can feel impossible to find. It encouraged designing for spontaneity and memorable enjoyable exploring — helping users follow instinct, without feeling stuck because of itineraries.
If I had more time:
I’d refine the discovery filters based on mood or interest, explore map-based storytelling, and test how users share or bookmark hidden gems with others for a more personal, connected experience, and build a community aspect where users can share their stories with each other.
